Duke of Edinburgh's International Award
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is available to Newman Catholic College students aged 14 to 25. The Award is a self-development program that encourages students to challenge themselves, develop new skills, serve their community and build confidence through experiences beyond the classroom.
Students design their own Award journey by selecting activities that match their interests and goals. There are no prescribed activities, allowing each participant to create a personalised program with the guidance of the College's Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader, Supervisors and Assessors.
The Duke of Ed & QCE
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is recognised as a course of study for the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Students can earn up to 4 QCE points by completing the Award:
- Bronze Award – 1 QCE point
- Silver Award – 1 QCE point
- Gold Award – 2 QCE points
Award Levels
Students can commence the Award at the level appropriate to their age:
- Bridge Award – An introductory program that prepares students for the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.
- Bronze – 14 years and over
- Silver – 15 years and over
- Gold – 16 years and over
Award Sections
To achieve each Award level, students complete the following sections:
- Physical Recreation
- Skills
- Voluntary Service
- Adventurous Journey
- Residential Project (Gold Award participants only)
At Newman Catholic College, the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award provides students with valuable opportunities to develop leadership, resilience, independence and a lifelong commitment to service while contributing towards their QCE.
